Texas Hold 'Em Rules
At the beginning of every game, each player is dealt 2 pocket cards face-down with 5 community cards dealt face-up. The strategy is to obtain the best hand using any 5 of the 7 dealt cards, whether the combination is a player's 2 down cards and 3 table cards, 1 pocket card and 4 table cards, or all 5 table cards. Any 5-card poker combination out of 7 is accepted. High hand wins.
Betting takes place after the two hold cards are dealt, after the flop, after the turn and after the river card.
Each person at the table takes a turn as the dealer. After each hand, the deal moves one person to the left. If there is a professional dealer, then a dealer button is placed in front of the person that is supposed to be a dealer.
Blinds are forced bets. The "small blind" is the person to the left of the dealer button. The "big blind" is the second person to the left of the dealer button.
The blinds in tournament play are increased at regular intervals, but if the blinds are already posted when it is tme to increase the blinds, then they will increase on the next deal.
All players must be dealt into the hand. When it is their turn to be a blind, a player's blind/ante is placed in the pot whether they are seated at the table or not. A player switching table cannot come into the small blind. If the player is seated at the small blind position, then that player will not be dealt in until the deal has passed him/her.
If two or more players lose in the same hand, the one with the most chips finishes in higher position.
Intentionally exposing a card is illegal in tournament play and a hand can be ruled dead.
• CFHP Rules
1. Any questions on the rules or how a hand should be handled should be directed to a Charlottesville Full House Poker representative. Their decision is final.
2. Players are expected to be courteous and respectful. Learning to win gracefully as well as lose with dignity is one of the challenges of poker.
3. Profanity, obscene gestures and abusive language will not be tolerated. Guilty parties will be excused from the tournament and could face being banned from the location.
4. The Dealer is designated by high card to begin the tournament, and the dealer button rotates clockwise around the table.
5. Blinds, or initial bets, are set by the CFHP representatives every 20 minutes.
6. A “small blind” bet is placed by the player to the left of the dealer before the deal and is half of the big blind. A “big blind” bet is placed by the player second to the left of the dealer before the deal.
7. The Dealer is responsible for making sure the bets are correct and then pulling them into the pot. You can help by placing your bet in front of you and announcing what it is. (No splashing the pot)
8. If any card is exposed before the flop, dealer should retrieve all dealt cards and start a re-deal.
9. The cards speak for themselves. If you are unsure of your hand or if it beats your opponents hand, turn your cards face up after all betting is over. The dealer or someone at the table will help call the winning hand.
10. Once cards are place in the muck face down they are dead. You can not retrieve your hand because it was better than you thought.
